This moment is incredible no matter how or what it took to birth your baby safe and sound. For some mums they can feel that their body let them down because they had to have a caesarean but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Your body did an unbelievable job over the last 40 weeks growing this tiny little human and whatever way the cookie crumbles on the day it all becomes worthwhile. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 We are very lucky to live in a world where caesarean is available. There is clear evidence that it saves lives or reduces risks for mother and baby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 For each couple, the question to answer is “is there reason to believe that in my case a vaginal birth would carry more risk than a c-section?”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 Any request from a mother for a c-section will be taken seriously if you are clear about your reasons for preferring a caesarean birth and if you can show that you are making an informed decision and that you have a good understanding of the risks involved and the realities of the recovery. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 The NICE guidelines encourage women to address any fears they may have about birth as a first step. Hypnobirthing is the answer to this. Fully understanding what our minds and bodies need for birth to progress as expected, is probably one of the biggest ways hypnobirthing can impact birth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 Various steps can be taken to make your birth experience more special. For example, low lighting at your end of the room, gown can be worn back to front to enjoy skin to skin as soon as the baby is born, play your favourite playlist, wrap your baby in a blanket that you have been sleeping with or in the case of an unplanned section lay on one while you have the operation (this helps with seeding the micro biome) and lots lots more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👼🏼 Your baby’s lungs are the last to develop so if your baby is premature they may need to go to a special care baby unit after they are born.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
