Place of Birth

Where are you planning to give birth? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We chose to give birth in hospital. This is little Jaz heading home (on my birthday may I add) just 4 hours old 😱 Could you get a better birthday present. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are many things you can do to ensure that you create the right environment and space to birth instinctively. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖌 PRIVACY - a birthing mother should not feel observed as this increases her level of anxiety, inhibitions and expectation to perform. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖌 SAFETY - reduce all potential concerns and anxiety. Keep the adrenalin production to a minimum. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖌 LOW LIGHTS - as with all mammals, a birthing mother is more likely to feel safe and private if lights are dimmed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖌 LANGUAGE - especially in second stage of labour keep speaking to a minimum. The use of language stimulates the neocortex. It is important that a woman is completely undisturbed especially when having a contraction. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖌 WARMTH - it is important to keep warm and especially important after the baby is born, both need to feel warm and comfortable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Many hypnobirthing mothers are almost unaware of their surroundings and are very good at keeping calm and focused no matter what is going on around them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you meet the Midwives that will be supporting you it’s important to explain to them that you are a hypnobirthing mum. All Midwives have your best interest at heart and any midwife I have spoken to are over the moon with hypnobirthing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BIRTH PARTNERS, it is essential that you develop a good rapport with the Midwives and that you remain calm and friendly whilst still ASSERTIVE in your role of maintaining the mother’s calm, quiet birthing space. Always remember they are there to help you if help is truly needed. 🤝
