World Breastfeeding Week

Updated: Sep 27, 2019

Happy World Breastfeeding Week So I’ve gone back and forth on whether to post this pic or not and then I did. Why? It’s very personal I know but it’s me and it’s real and I started this business to help other women feel empowered in not only giving birth but in also preparing them for what comes right after the baby is born. Before my first I was asked (and I remember it vividly) “I assume you’re going to breastfeed?” 🥴 At the time, in my heart I wasn’t sure if I was going to breastfeed, I wasn’t sure if it was for me, and what if it didn’t work out 😔 I didn’t want that pressure so I kindly replied “I will see how it all goes”. And so I did, I played it by ear and we did it. For anyone who is reading this, it doesn’t matter if you breastfeed or bottle feed. You’re doing the best for you and your baby that’s all that matters. This is just my story. 😘

I had no idea how attached I would get to feeding. No one told me. Second time round, nearly 8 months in and I’m clinging on for dear life, even through the biting!! Why, because maybe 2 is our lucky number and sometimes that’s hard for me to accept. Other times I’m like hell ya I accept it but most of the time it’s hard. I’m one of those who loved being pregnant. 🤰🏼 No on can prepare you for the engorged boobs (sore, but lads I loved them. A far cry from my teeny tiny boobs before), no one prepares you for the leakage, no one tells you that after a shower your milk will just pour out so you got to be quick with those breast pads ladies. No one prepared me for mastitis but best of all no one prepared me for how much I would love it. I talk about hormones a lot on my course. They are vital for an efficient and comfortable birth experience. They are also very important to birth your placenta and to stimulate the flow of your milk. The breasts have oxytocin receptors so when oxytocin is flowing so will your milk. Watch out though, when you feed from one boob it stimulates the milk to flow on the other boob....no one told me that either. So if you breastfed for 1 day, 1 week or 1 year, you did your best and what was right for you and your baby so high five. 👏🏻
